After treating us to what’s become a spiritual Canadian concert experience for decades, The Tragically Hip are kicking off their final tour in Victoria on July 22nd. Dynamic singer Gord Downie shared his diagnoses of incurable brain cancer with devastated fans and quickly dropped the dates of this final tour with a new album Man Machine Poem. His docs say he’s good to go on tour, and The Hip want to do what they love best, one more time.

With frantic fervor, Canadians that were signed up for TheHip.com fan club tried to get pre-sale tickets earlier this week. It didn’t go well in many cities. Toronto’s presale for two shows “sold-out” in 1 minute? Then the less than $200 tickets showed up on re-sale sites for thousands of dollars more than their ticket price. Ugh. In US dollars, even. This proved absolutely devastating for fans, and enraging for many. This system of gouging (not tolerated in other sectors of commerce in Canada) has understandably inspired many a blog and Facebook rant this week — sure, you can count this one of them.

Now then, how WILL you get Tragically Hip tickets for Victoria’s July 22nd show at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre?

These tips for your best bet in getting your tickets for the The Hip have arrived just in time:

“With the speed and efficiency of ticket sales on the internet,” Dave Dakers, President of RG Sports and Entertainment said, “the odds, for even the first 10 people, who line-up at the Select Your Tickets Box Office to get tickets are not high. Fans overwhelmingly give themselves the best chance to secure tickets through online purchase.”

Ok, got that? The old-school line up at the box office may be eventful, but might not produce Tragically Hip tickets. Here’s what you need know:

  • Go to www.selectyourtickets.com and set up an account — you need one to buy tickets through the site and it’ll speed up the process
  • There is a limit of four (4) tickets per person.
  • For phone orders call Select Your Tickets Box Office at 250-220-7777.
  • If you choose to try and secure tickets at the Select Your Ticket Box Office, the Random Line-Up/Lottery Draw Policy will be in place.

Editorial Note:

  • Please don’t be “that guy” who scalps tickets for outrageous prices. For the love of all things good and musical in this country. As a matter of fact, if you need to sell them…I have a friend. Sell them for face-value. Because that’s what fans do.
  • Don’t buy tickets at inflated prices — CBC is talking about airing a final show broadcast, hopefully that will come through and save some heartache.

Good luck fellow concert ticket ninjas. Now go listen to a Hip album to become one with the universe.
