Black Moon
The dark side of the New Moon faces Earth when we have a “Black Moon” (Space.com: Black Moon 2016)

It may sound ominous, but the Black Moon is really pretty chill.

The Black Moon is the darker counterpart of a Blue Moon …We call it a Blue Moon when you get two full moons in the same month. It’s called a Black Moon when our skies are graced with a New Moon twice in the same month. (aka — the moon you never see because its shine is sent into the dark reaches of space)

What is a Black Moon (Space.com)

A Black Moon is a fairly uncommon occurrence since we only get them about every 34 months.

The most notable thing about the Black Moon is that you’ll get a really dark sky on that night for stargazing. Or even better — this week we have a decent forecast for Northern Lights on Vancouver Island, so it might be a great night to grab your tripod and do some night photography. Or just go stare up at the sky and look for the spectacular evidence of a geomagnetic storm.

Here’s more info on the dark side of the moon…

In Eastern Canada, they will get a Black Moon right on Halloween Night. So I guess that’s actually pretty ominous.
