Cookies for sale!

I saw a note on a friend’s social media this week.

She is one of the local Brownie and Girl Guide leaders that we always turn to when we need cookies!…Families and young girls also turn to the Girl Guides for companionship and community involvement, and of course those priceless experiences of fun and independence that kids get from going to camp

Girl Guides

This week, the call for “Cookies for Sale” was a special one. One of the local Guiding groups had their camping gear stolen. $2,000 worth of camp stoves, tents and various other gear.

Super sad to hear one of our guiders had their car broken ken into and $2000 worth of district camping gear was stolen…

Friends rushed to their aid and offered to loan camping supplies to the group. Such an awesome community!

“The one problem we have is that the tents are really specific. They have to fit within a certain footprint for camping. We are sites that have pre built areas that the tents must fit in, as well as the overall size of camping area. So again…. wow … thanks for all the support we have had with offers of gear we can borrow.”

Okay, so we’re left with cookies! If you’d like to help out the group, send a note to Sheryl portageinletdistrict@gmail.com and buy some cookies.

It’s a win-win!

Update: Emergency Cookie Sale!

Another parent has organized an emergency cookie sale at their house – kind of like yard sale, with cookies! Saturday, May 20th across from Marigold Elementary on Grange Road.

“I have taken it upon myself, as a parent of one of the Pathfinders, and arranged for some of the girl guides/families/leaders to meet me at my house tomorrow morning. We will be selling girl guide cookies door to door in our area.  We will also have a table of cookies set up by my house (3730 Grange Road).  As we are located right across the street from Marigold Elementary school, there is a parking area where anyone who wanted to stop to help the girls out by purchasing some cookies!  We are making every effort to sell cookies so we can re-purchase the camp equipment and supplies needed. (it was estimated that approximately 1800 boxes of cookies would needed to be sold just to re-purchase the stolen camping gear!).
The girls have also have been doing a metal drive over the past 2 months where a large red metal bin has been in my driveway.  This has been another way that the girls have been raising money toward the additional needed camp equipment for SOAR.  This camping equipment not only be will used by the girls attending the week long SOAR trip, but will also be for use by the entire Portage Inlet District Girl Guide units.
Fingers crossed for a successful cookie selling day tomorrow!  Hey, and if anyone drops off metal, that’s fantastic too!
Many thanks,
Stacey”
