It is going to be a busy weekend for Dez and the Community Cruiser! Come by the Victoria Reptile Expo and several other events on top of that to get your bonus code, and some goodies from us! See you soon!
Serena Ryder took us by surprise a couple of years ago, when she stomped onto the radio and is now firmly planted on the top of our list of Canadian artists. My 9-year old girl (ok, me too) really, really wanted to see Serena Ryder’s show, so when we found ourselves with wristbands for the Rifflandia music festival this weekend — we had to go.
Planted in front of some large stacks of speakers (with earplugs) while her mom snapped away with glee in the photo-pit, my child become a real fan. A fan of live music, a fan of the crowd, a fan of the music festival and all it’s silliness and light-hearted fun. She became a fan of the powerful young woman that sang with soul, heart and energy.
For a few weeks now, we’ve been enjoying FloatHouse Fridays at Ocean 98.5. Ocean listeners have won the opportunity to try out a free 90-minutes of NOTHING…except pure relaxation while they Float in a bath of Epsom salted water in a sensory deprivation tub.

This group of grannies anywhere from 55 – 72 years old are riding 275km from Campbell River to Victoria this weekend. They are doing it for fitness, camaraderie and to help other grandmothers and families in AIDS affected African countries.
It may be the “last” weekend of the summer by regular standards…but it’s still all fun and games. The Saanich Fair returns this weekend for the 147th year! Here’s some of the highlights of the fair from my big fat photo albums over the years.
By now you’ve seen and heard quite a few people talking about and taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. It’s the social media fundraising challenge where the recipient literally pours a bucket of ice water over their head. What a great idea! ALS needs more awareness and support…and frankly this has been a long hot summer. Everyone’s done it…Ok, well — not everyone — but Bon Jovi, Weird Al, Serena Ryder, Chris Pratt…a lot of people are having a blast with this.
Ocean 98.5′s very own “good sport” Rob Michaels has accepted his challenge and here’s what it looks like:
There we go! Jann Arden, Gordie Tupper, Sunny Lenarduzzi, Ian Slipp — you’re up to bat!
When is the last time you’ve seen a sea otter around Victoria? Hmmm? I’ve seen them near the beach in East Sooke Park some time ago…but it looks like the furry little guys are making a comeback to the waters around Victoria.
A multitude of advertisers see proof of this everyday. Their formula for success is a simple one. With radio, they reach the right customers, the right number of times, with the right creative message.
