OK, we’ve got our real winter coats out now. It’s chilly for our holiday parades and events, but we’ll have hot chocolate, scarves, warm mittens and a place to go warm up, so it’s all good.
But some people don’t have those things.
We’re lucky to have a community that comes together to operate the Greater Victoria Extreme Weather Protocol — that spring into action when we have sub-zero temperatures, wind or any other conditions that make life on the streets dangerous. Together, we help the homeless or those who are vulnerable on our streets.
This is what you can do to make sure everyone is safe and warm through these cold nights:
- Donate socks, blankets, self-inflating camping mats
- Cash donations for when people can’t be in the shelters — they give out coffee cards and open warming stations
