Shade required — Rock the Shores 2015 ~Photo by Mel Z
The Rock the Shores 2015 festival returned to the green green grass of West Shore Parks & Rec fields this weekend. Naturally, the smoking hot festival weather returned, too…that’s JUST what happens for Rock the Shores.
I spent the better part of 10+ hours at the music festival through the weekend and had the opportunity to join photografriends in the photo pit to take some shots of the bands, the artists, the crowd, the people that are Rock the Shores. I will add more to this photo gallery as I go through the better part of (cough) 1,200 photos. Yes, if I’m one thing — it’s snap happy.
This weekend, you have a chance to introduce your kids to the real-life superheros in our community — the nurses, firefighters, police, first responders etc. The 5th Annual Superhero Kids Day is on Saturday, June 27th 11-3pm at Uptown Shopping Centre.
Mel Z chats with Victoria’s very own Batman — Mark Ashfield — to hear more about this awesome free community event:
If the open-minded city that rocks a rainbow of heritage buildings, flowers on every corner and big blue ocean wasn’t colourful enough for you — the City of Victoria just got even more brighter — and diverse.
City of Victoria launched three rainbow crosswalks downtown this week, just in time for Victoria Pride Week, kicking off Saturday, June 27th. The City of Victoria will also raise the Pride flag on Monday, June 29th at City Hall.
We’re always stoked when Cirque du Soleil comes to Victoria. Opening night at Varekai thrilled us bringing the elements of dance, acrobatics, humour, music and color — all presented in a level of artistry that the Cirque du Soleil productions are known for. Varekia continues at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre through May 31st. Tickets from www.selectyourtickets.com

It’s time to add a little more kindness to your day, #yyj.
As we rush from work — to coffee — to work — to home — to errands — to dinner, we often encounter people that are experiencing homelessness in our city. Everyone has different feelings when you pass a person on a street that may need a little kindness. Some of us pass on spare change, some drop by a coffee, a cookie, a smile. Now you have another great way to give a little kindness in Victoria.
Here’s a Spring Break rainy-day activity to do with the kids…In just one location you can “see” a movie, hang out in the forest, go to the beach, learn some First Nations languages at the Our Living Languages exhibit and see the most incredible peeks at wildlife with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year display..all while staying dry.
Hey I’m Tori the intern and I’m going to give you a peek behind the curtain at the craziness that goes on here at ocean 98.5 headquarters.
First and foremost you should know that everyone here is SUPER nice. If you ever listened and thought “wow, they seem nice” I can assure you it’s not an act, they really are that nice. Everyone welcomed me with open arms despite me being just a lowly student from Alberta. This was a good thing because I was also a nervous student.
A multitude of advertisers see proof of this everyday. Their formula for success is a simple one. With radio, they reach the right customers, the right number of times, with the right creative message.
