Serena Ryder took us by surprise a couple of years ago, when she stomped onto the radio and is now firmly planted on the top of our list of Canadian artists. My 9-year old girl (ok, me too) really, really wanted to see Serena Ryder’s show, so when we found ourselves with wristbands for the Rifflandia music festival this weekend — we had to go.
Planted in front of some large stacks of speakers (with earplugs) while her mom snapped away with glee in the photo-pit, my child become a real fan. A fan of live music, a fan of the crowd, a fan of the music festival and all it’s silliness and light-hearted fun. She became a fan of the powerful young woman that sang with soul, heart and energy.
