Ocean 98.5 is excited to sponsor the Saunders Subaru Victoria Triathlon taking place on Sunday, June 15th and now you have the chance to win an entry into this fun race!
We’re coming down to the last few weeks of Ocean 98.5′s Escape to Alaska and we don’t want you to miss out on the trip of a lifetime.
Victoria is such a wild city. We have Dogs. Children. Baby T-Rex. This is what it looked like on the corner of Blanshard and Yates this morning:
The Vernal Equinox has arrived. Whether the weather cooperates or not — It is SPRING! Since I’m a plant-enthusiast — now that doesn’t mean I’m a great gardener, by the way. It just means I love the plants. If I’m inadvertently responsible for a few blueberry bushes dying each year and a garden rich with buttercups, I am still a plant-enthusiast. OK? End of discussion.
Now, it’s time to get out in the garden — or at least go and admire someone else’s…
Here are 5 Gardens in Victoria to check out:
This has been an amazing run of sunshine so far this week! Much to our chagrin, that time change arrived just in time to coax us outside. The irresistible blue skies, blossoming trees, smell of BBQ’s and grass being cut in the evening…have brought people outside in droves — Quick — better enjoy it!
If you’re working like I am during the day, we’ve got to make the most of these longer evenings with the kids off for Spring Break. If you want to get outside with kids of any age, you should try geocaching! One of our listeners reminded me of this great outdoor activity – I almost forgot about it after a long winter. We’ve found (or at least searched for) geocache treasures on Mt.Tolmie, Beaconhill Park, Lochside trail, in our Royal Oak neighborhood and even on holidays.
How and what is geocaching? Well, in it’s simplest form — it’s treasure hunting for the sake of treasure hunting. Remember the Goonies hunting for the treasure of One-Eyed Willie? Well, it’s like that but without the robbers and booby traps.
Hi, you’ve clicked on the continuing blog series of Spring Break in Victoria….(Thanks!)
Sometimes we might forget while scheduling playdates and making plans to go to the park, that Spring Break is just that. A break. If you’re lucky enough able to take time off to be home with your kids for this joyous occasion known as spring break — then you have the leisure of actually taking some actual leisure time. And letting your kids have some too.
Many of us are a slave to “the schedule”. Mondays and Saturdays are soccer. Tuesday is Brownies. Wednesday…what was Wednesday again?? Oh right, waterpolo. You know what I mean, right? In the pursuit of giving our kids these great fitness, social and character-building opportunities..We are BUSY. Spring break brings us an opportunity to turn the busy down.
Here’s my recipe for giving your kids — and yourself — a day OFF.
The Uptown zipline will open from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm every day until Sunday March 23, 2014. Each ride on the zipline will cost $10 with $5 being donated to Baby Iver.
Oh that time change!
I don‘t know about you, but as an anti-morning person, springing forward hits me hard. In addition, I am constantly REMINDED that I’ve lost an hour of sleep — since I cannot figure out how to change the clock in my car. Once I can do that, I will let that hour go.
In the meantime, I’m just happy that this time change brings us the promise of spring! Now that the kids are on spring break — 2 out of our 3 Victoria school districts are on a two-week break now with schools in the West Shore and Sooke joining them next week.
Now what to do to mark this fine occasion? Let’s make this a community effort — I’ll share one, you share one. It’s the best way to hit all the best activities to keep the kids busy at home and/or get them out of the house to do something fun to mark this once-a-year break. If we do one per day for two weeks, we’ll have at least 20 things to do, right?…
