The OCEAN'S 'Tools for School'

We strongly believe that every child deserves to have a positive learning experience at School and together with TheVictoria School of Business and Technology we're pleased to bing back our ‘Tools for School’ events!  We will be collecting supplies to benefit the Single Parent Family Resource Centre who help local families in need with costly back to School supplies.  You can help by printing off our school supplies list, buying a few items, and dropping them off at The Victoria School of Business and Technology.  We will be on location August 9th, 16th and 23rd from 11am-2pm with a BBQ and a special VIP Platinum Bonus code worth 1000 points for everyone who donates plus you have a chance to win a $350 gift certificate from The Victoria School of Business. 

Thrifty Foods Kids Run for RVM

The OCEAN presents the annual Thrifty Foods Kids Run at the Royal Victoria Marathon on Sunday October 12th.  Kids 12 and under are encouraged to take part in this 1.2 km fun run.  Registration is on now!  Take part in the Kid Tracker program by tracking your activity, nutrition and reading leading up to the race and participate in the 1.2 km Thrifty Foods Kids Run! Download a tracker or pick one up from any local Thrifty Foods location. All completed Thrifty Foods trackers will receive a certificate at the RVM Race Expo to be eligible for draw prizes.

Volunteers needed for BC Children's Festival 150 booth

BC Children's Hospital Foundation  is in  need  of  volunteers to join  them at the BC 150th Birthday Celebration!  They're looking for volunteers to help man the BC Children's Hospital Foundation "Be A Superhero" campaign booth that will educated the general public on the campaign to rebuild Children's Hospital.   If you are interested in volunteering, please contact: Alex Mitchell, BC Children's Hospital Foundation by emailing amitchell@bcchf.ca 

VPVS Volunteer Appreciation Picnic

BC Children's Hospital Sunshine Gala

Peninsula Co-op Cinema Under the Stars

Go back to the days of the drive in movie!  The Peninsula Co-op Cinema Under the Stars is a great way to re-live those drive-in days and bring the magic to a whole new generation.  Friday August 22nd Centennial Park will be turned into an outdoor market with vendors, food and entertainment from 5-8pm then at dusk settle down to watch a great family adventure flick.  Make sure to bring your blankets and lawn chairs and get there early to get a good spot!

'Chocolate Day' at Le Cafe Chocolat - July 27th!

That's right you heard it, 'Chocolate Day' happening on July 27th at Le Cafe Chocolat! Come join me Corrie with the Ocean Community Cruiser and take a tour of Le Cafe Chocolat Shop, make Chocolate Horses or Truffles, and best of all - Eat Chocolate! Free for Kids 12 and under - otherwise by donation which will go to a local charity. Chocolate Day will be happening from 10am to 3pm at 6991 East Saanich Road, so make sure you stop by, roll up your sleeves, and get into the chocolate making action!

Terry Fox Great Canadian Head Shave

Victoria's Terry Fox Great Canadian Head Shave is Friday September 12th at Terry Fox's monument at Mile Zero.  This year they're attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the most heads shaved at one event (current record is 393).  Starting at 4pm come see members of the Victoria Fire Department, The Navy, Young Air Cadets and many more have their head shaved with proceeds going to the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research.  At 5pm, The Terry Fox Van will be arriving which signals the finale of the Tour of Hope.  To find out more or to make a plede click here

Go for Guide Dogs Walk

Go For Guide Dogs is a family fun day for you and your dog at Beaver Lake Regional Park on Sunday September 28th. Registration starts at 9:30am followed by a 5km walk through Beaver Lake Park and finishing up with prizes and a belly rub for all dogs!  Click here to regisiter
 

10th Annual Alpine Wine Fest on Mount Washington

On August 8th, it's the 10th anniversary of the Mount Washington Alpine Wine Festival at the beautiful Raven Lodge! Sample many delicious Vancouver Island and BC wines and ciders and enjoy tasty local foods, music, and wonderful Strathcona views! 14th Annual Arts At Glendale Garden

Taking place on Saturday August 9th and Sunday August 10th from 11-4, this year's 14th Annual Art At Glendale Garden show will feature over 70 artists, along with painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers, textile artists, potters, jewelers, glass jewellery, glassware, photocards, weavers, woodworkers, metalworkers and wonderful musicians. The OCEAN Supports Beacon Hill Children's Farm....NOW OPEN!

It's a population explosion at Beacon Hill Children's Farm with new babies everywhere! Be a “Tourist in Your Hometown” and come watch the daily Goat Stampede at 10:10 am and 4:10pm as the baby goats charge through the farm - it’s like a miniature running of the bulls. 

Visit the FARM all season long and say hello to the pot bellied pigs, sheep, bunnies, peacocks, Spot the cat and their latest addition baby donkey Mr Elliot!

THE BEACON HILL CHILDREN’S FARM is now open Monday thru Sunday.  Admission is by donation.

Miracles CAN happen!

Because of your generosity The OCEAN'S Radiothon for Kids 2008 raised $188,403 for the BC Children's Hospital. This brings our 6 year total to over $1 million!  May 1st and 2nd we raised funds and awareness for the B.C. Children’s Hospital, our province’s only acute care facility for very sick children. All monies raised go towards the specialized life saving equipment and care for kids zero to sixteen. Throughout the live broadcast, The OCEAN shared with listeners many touching stories of families throughout the province who’ve experienced the incredible care and attention of BC Children’s Hospital.

Victoria Riding for the Disabled Association Has Volunteer Opportunities

Providing therapy on horseback for children and adults with disabilities with classes held on Tuesday-Thursday mornings and afternoons; volunteers must be good with people and enjoy horses.  No experience is necessary (training is provided) but volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.  Orientation/training will be held the last week of September, classes begin the first week of October.  For more information call Sue at 658-6272.
