Chris Cornell’s 5th solo album Higher Truth has sent him on the road again to sell out concerts across North America. Choosing concert halls and theatres, such as our Royal Theatre to showcase his intimate and stripped down solo sound — we’re thrilled to share these photos from Chris Cornell’s Thursday, July 21st show in Victoria.

Chris Cornell has been a pioneer of the Seattle music scene since the 90’s and in a number of incredible bands and collaborations. He’s also a founding member of The Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, currently raising funds and partnering with charitable organizations to mobilize support for children facing tough challenges, including homelessness, poverty, abuse and neglect.

Following the shocking passing of Prince, Cornell shared his moving version of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U on YouTube in tribute to Prince. A powerful piece that showcases Chris Cornell’s limitless ceiling of talent. Cornell performed the song live at the Royal Theatre inside of 3 full hours of soul-filled music that spanned his career.

Prince’s music is the soundtrack to the soulful and beautiful universe he created, and we have all been privileged to be part of that amazing world. I performed his song “Nothing Compares 2 U” for the first time a couple months ago. It has a timeless relevance for me and practically everyone I know. Sadly, now his own lyrics in this song could not be more relevant than at this moment, and I sing them now in reverence as I pay tribute to this unequaled artist who has given all of our lives so much inspiration and made the world so much more interesting. We will miss you Prince!!! ~Chris Cornell

The show embodied thought-provoking songs and lyrics from the Higher Truth album, while threading together Chris’s catalogue of powerful songs from other solo albums, along with Temple of the Dog and Soundgarden works. Cornell also treated the sold-out show with a tribute to The Beatles. Chris Cornell clearly enjoyed playing for the Royal Theatre audience of 1,400, thus the three-hour show. You can’t blame him, the theatre was filled with what seemed like long-lost friends who finally had a chance to get together, chat about important issues and jam out to their favourite music.

If you have a chance to join Chris on his journey for Higher Truth, I suggest you snap up a ticket before they’re sold out.
