Every year, Earth Day happens on April 22nd as a reminder to take steps to help protect our planet.  Some communities will even host Earth Day activities the weekend leading up to Earth Day so be sure to check out your local community events calendar for more ideas!

Here is a a list of activities you can do on your own or with your family to help create a better tomorrow for our planet.

  • If you have space in your yard, plant a tree. Make sure to pick one that won’t outgrow your yard and cause problems later.
  • Plant a vegetable or herb garden. Not only will you have fresh veggies, it’ll help you save money too!
  • Plant a flower garden. Not only will it add a pop of colour in your yard, it will also help to keep the bee population from depleting.
  • Clean up the trash! Pick a favourite playground, walking trail or park and spend some time picking up garbage and recycling to help keep it clean.
  • Pack a garbage-free picnic using re-useable containers and napkins
  • Hang a bird feeder to attract some feathered friends to your yard
  • Build a composter for your yard using recycled non-treated wood. If you aren’t into DIYs, you can pick up a composter at your local home reno store.

After doing some of these activities, consider what you can do in your daily life to make Earth Day, every day.
