Friday night saw Marty the Marmot cheer his Victoria Royals onto a 2-1 victory over the Prince George Cougars.  The hometown team repeated the feat Saturday night in an incredible shootout effort with Gary Haden clinching the 3-2 win.

On Saturday, the Fun Finder headed out to East Sooke Park for the CRD Hawk Watch. CRD Parks had some great activities and information booths set up – you could check to see how big your wingspan was and learn how to recognize the outlines of hawks and eagles in the sky!

Sam and Selena, handlers and trainers from The Raptors in Duncan, arrived for the event with three amazing feathered friends in tow – Judge Dredd, the Turkey Vulture, Vega, the Harris Hawk, and Auto, the 6-month-old Peregrine Falcon.  Birds are such an integral part of our island’s ecosystem and it was incredible for everyone to get up close and personal with them.

Judge Dredd put on a fabulous show, flying over, around, and through the crowd – and he was happy to fan his feathers for anyone that called him “handsome”!! Did you know that Peregrine falcons can reach speeds of up to 300km per hour?  That’s as fast as some race cars!!

The upcoming week is jam-packed with Fun!  On Wednesday, Pacific FC is challenging the Halifax Wanderers, on Saturday we are going to “TP the Town” and compete in a Food Rescue Challenge, and on Sunday, we will be at the CIBC Run for the Cure!

Be sure to stay up to date with all of our events on our Events page and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
