Happy New Year!

The Fun Finder Team started 2020 by cheering on Jeff Laybolt as he achieved his fantastic goal of walking from coast to coast on an amazing trek he named “The Great Walk About.”  Jeff left Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on March 1st, 2019 and 308 days and over 9000km later, reached Clover Point on January 4th, 2020!!

In the process, Jeff raised almost $12,000 for Diabetes and Juvenile Diabetes Research, a cause that was near to his heart as the disease has affected his family for at least the past three generations.  Many locals braved the chilly wind and bracing weather to join Jeff at the finish line on Saturday.  Congratulations!

Saturday afternoon we joined the Chinatown Lioness Club at the Save on Foods at Fort and Foul Bay for their annual location for the Easter Seals Fundraiser “Chip in for the Kids.”  Christmas trees were dropped off and chipped by donation.

The Lioness Club made sure everyone was well cared for – hot coffee, snacks, and Donna made sure to bring treats for the four-legged family members!

On Sunday, the Fun Finder Team headed to Broadmead Village for another day of tree chipping, joining up with the jubilant crew from the Chinatown and Saanich Lions Clubs.

Davey Tree has been donating their time and equipment to help support this fundraiser for several years – the tree chipping teams zip back and forth between the different locations and chip the trees right on the spot. It’s quite the sight to see!

The Ocean 98.5 Lock Box was stocked with gift cards and two families were able to crack the code!  They each won $50 in gift cards and are off to enjoy a fabulous meal with Chef Darryl Pope and friendly staff at Artisan Bistro.

Next weekend, you can meet up with the Fun Finder team on Saturday at the Mayfair Mall for Handbags for Hope, and on Sunday, in North Saanich at the North Saanich Middle School for the first race in the Island Race Series.  More details on the Island Race Series can be found at https://www.ocean985.com/events/2019-island-race-series/
